Peer Education refers to the use of members of a given group to effect some desired changes among members of the same group. SWOP-Kenya derives its peer educators from the community it serves that includes the Female and Male Sex Workers, Men who have Sex with Men and the Adolescent Girls and Young Women.

The Peer Educators are trained to increase knowledge, change attitudes or beliefs, improve protective skills like condom negotiation/use and increase access to HIV prevention and other reproductive health services through small group or one on one interpersonal interactions. SWOP-Kenya adapted the hotspot based Peer Educator model way before its standardization by the National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP).
